Greener Pastures Services (GPS) is a local family-owned and operated full-service curbside recycling business.
Our commitment is to find a better place rather than the landfill for as many items as we can offer, while providing you with friendly customer service. We are very excited and proud to be able to offer this option to the residents and small businesses in Salem, select areas of Franklin County and Roanoke County.
Why was GPS started?
The EPA estimates that 75% of our trash can be recycled, but we are only recycling 25% of that. It's not that people think that throwing away trash is better for the environment, part of the reason is because they think it's easier. That's why we felt the need for this service.
GPS hopes that if we can show recycling can be easier than they thought, that people will participate more in their recycling efforts and waste less.
Currently, in order to recycle in the county, you have to sort the materials and then bring them to the various drop-off sites. Another reason why we are offering this service is to make recycling hassle-free and convenient.
We make recycling simple!
We provide you with a bin and you place most of the recyclables in there.
We do most of the sorting and haul it away for you.
Recycling right from your home or business.
The materials accepted at the majority of drop-off sites are limited to #1 and #2 plastics, newspapers, and aluminum cans.
GPS accepts those items as well as glass (yes, glass!), cardboard, and mixed paper to name a few.
We also take items such as clothes and shoes to the local thrift store.
You can also throw those bagfuls of grocery bags in there, too(we'll remember to take them in).

Looking forward to carpooling our recyclables with you.
